Quilt of Valor Awarded

016

On October 17, Harold Heins was in his room at David Place when he was greeted by a knock at the door. He wasn’t expecting visitors and had never met the 3 ladies who had come to see him that day.  You can imagine his surprise to learn the ladies were volunteers with the Quilts of Valor program and there to honor him as the recipient of a Quilt of Valor made specially for him.

The Quilts of Valor Foundation is made of a volunteer group of quilters from all across the US and was founded in 2003. This particular quilt was made for Harold by a local Nebraska 4-H member.  Quilts are awarded to veterans to say thank you for your service, sacrifice, and valor in serving our nation.  Harold served his country during WW2 in the Air Force as an aircraft gunner.  More information about the Quilts of Valor program can be found on their website at www.qovf.org
