VSL Scholarship Awarded

David Place’s Mary Ann Mattingly recently received the Vetter Senior Living Scholarship to help her accomplish her goal of receiving her RN degree. The award was presented by Director of Nursing Trudy Svoboda before a meeting with staff members.  Mary Ann, humble as she is, would only consent to sharing this news, if it was clear that this award was given to her because of the outstanding team of CNAs she works with. According to Mary Ann, “The only reason I won this scholarship is because the people at David Place have made me a better person.  The residents all inspire me and have made me who I am.”

Mary Ann works as a CNA and Med Aide at David Place and is a very serving individual. She only displays a “Yes I can” attitude. She is always there to help and doesn’t know any other way to be. She gives freely of herself to help cover open shifts expressing her love for the residents and staff.

Mary Ann likes to find solutions to problems and treats everyone with respect and dignity at all times. She has a sense of humor she displays often with an ornery smile on her face that makes us all laugh and feel good.

Mary Ann truly does live the VSL Values of Serving, Integrity, Teamwork, and Excellence every day. These values are within her and are natural and sincere. She does not recognize the value and worth she brings to David Place every day by providing caring and support for the residents, families, and staff; it is just the way she is! She cares for everyone with a loving, caring, personality without expectation of anything in return. She has indicated that her desire is to remain working at David Place after achieving her goal of becoming an RN, and we would be honored to have her serve in that role.
